John Primer & The Teardrops 1999 Easy Baby

Genre: Blues
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 01:09:31
Size: 158,97 MB

United States

At the time of this recording, John Primer had already established himself on the who’s who list of Chicago blues. He had finished a long stint with Muddy Waters and was in the middle of a 14 year stay as guitarist for Magic Slim and the Teardrops. This CD is John's fourth for Wolf Records and his very first full-length live album. It was recorded in the 1980s at the Zoo Bar in Lincoln, Nebraska as John and fellow Teardrops Nick Holt and Michael Scott warmed up the crowd for the big man. John chooses to mix traditional with contemporary Chicago blues and adds a touch of soul. The result is an exceptional diverse repertoire reflecting songs by Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters and Jimmy Reed to songs by Little Milton and Bobby Bland.

The 13 tracks included on the CD come in at just under 70 minutes of playing time. Even though there is only one John Primer original tune amongst the cover tunes, the band delivers 100% Chicago blues. Primer establishes himself as a West Side Chicago blues force. The influence of West Side legend Magic Sam can be heard on 3 songs commonly associated with him: "Easy Baby", "That’s All I Need", and "I Need You So Bad". On "Walkin’ Thru The Park", John lays down some 50s style lead with the Teardrops backing his every move. Things get a little funky with "That’s What Love Will Make You Do". The band does a fine job on "Rocking Daddy". Solid support from Holt and Scott allow Primer to jam the blues and take the song to new heights. You know John is having the time of his life on stage. Throughout this tune, the smiles on his face can be heard in his voice. The only Primer original, "My Baby’s Gone", is a traditional blues groove and you don’t get more authentic Chicago blues than with "I’ve Got A Problem". Album Notes

Twice As Good's second album, produced by Phil Ellis, is a masterpiece of the Blues as well as many other styles featured on the album. This album was truly done for the fans who faithfully come to the shows to see the band tear the house down on these numbers.

As Charlie Musselwhite spoke of the music, "Good real deal Blues". It also is a way for 2XG to also honor the great artists that inspired them. Elmore James, Magic Slim, Albert Collins, Gatemouth Brown, Albert King, Hound Dog Taylor, Big Joe Turner, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ace Cannon, Santana, even a male version of the fabulous Etta James's "I'd Rather Go Blind". Even a hint of 2XG's fondness of country on the George Strait tear-jerker, "What's Goin' On In Your World".

Review by Bill Dahl

Clearwater wrote the lion's share of this well-produced collection, reaching back for material by Jimmy Reed, Otis Rush, and Willie Mabon to round it out. The usual infectious mix of shimmering West Side blues, hauling rockabilly, and even a touch of funk on "Little Bit of Blues." Guitarist Will Crosby shares lead chores with his boss, and Carey Bell (Eddy's cousin) handles the harp work.

Genre: Blues
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 01:08:47
Size: 157,38 MB

Review by Bill Dahl

Chicago guitarist Primer's domestic debut album was doubtless an eye-opener for anyone not familiar with his searing slide work and sturdy vocal abilities. Apart from a very ill-advised cover of Glen Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy" (yuck!), the album resonates with mean, lowdown guitar work and fine ensemble backing.

Liquid Groove Mojo 2005 Cradle To The Grave

Genre: Southern Rock
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:48:34
Size: 111,06 MB

United States

Album Notes

LGM's latest album, "Cradle to the Grave" has been released worldwide. The title track single from the album is now receiving airplay on the Walmart Worldwide Radio Network, Indie Artist Radio and and is available at all digital download sites. It has been released to XM and Sirius Satellite Radio Networks. German, French and Polish music stores are carrying the new album, and it is also been released to over 100 radio markets nationally, along with all the major music publications.

The album was mixed by recording engineer, Jeff Brocaw, whose credits include 34 gold and platinum albums (Robert Cray, BB King). Jeff has also been nominated three times for Grammy awards. Mastering was performed by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound in NYC. This year alone, Sterling Sound was nominated for a total of sixty-three Grammy Awards. As Greg Calbi put it, this album has "captured the Gov't Mule/Allman Brothers sound".

Liquid Groove Mojo is: Joe Pitts, Darrell Davis, Al Hagood and Brian Blankenship. These four musicians have a unique ability to come together and play as tight as a three piece power trio and turn right around and jam with improvisational guitar solos reminiscent of the legendary guitarists that have inspired them. Pitts and Davis has a strong musical background with having played over 600 shows together. Pitts has studied music at Berklee College of Music and Davis has studied music at the University of Arkansas. The rhythm section is nothing short of phenomenal. Hagood and Blankenship are a well oiled machine with a huge low end and a powerful drum groove that is considered to be one of the best rhythm sections around. Monsterous guitar tones, soaring slide guitar work, and soulful vocals round out this quartet's musical abilities. Prolific songwriting makes this bands' sound timeless as well as contemporary.

"Cradle to the Grave", was written mostly by Pitts and Davis, either individually, or as a writing team. Also, included on the album, is a song by Warren Haynes (Gov't Mule/Allman Brothers), and a song by the legendary Kinsey Report. It was recorded at Lonesome Oak Studio, in Arkansas, over a 6 month period.

Review by Scott Yanow

Joe Moss has always loved the blues. By the time he was 15, the singer/guitarist was playing seven nights a week throughout Chicago and he often still works as many as 28 gigs a month. While his previous CDs have been almost strictly blues, on Maricela's Smile Moss stretches himself beyond blues, performing soul ballads, R&B-ish jams, and even touches of jazz. The liner note writer (Mike O'Cull of the Illinois Entertainer) is almost apologetic and defensive in describing Moss' desire to move beyond only playing 12-bar blues, but this is a natural evolution for blues performers. What is important is that Moss keeps the spirit of the blues as his base, he sings with a lot of feeling and sensitivity, he writes excellent songs (11 of the 13 selections are his originals), his guitar solos often sting, and there are a few more straightforward blues included along the way. Open-minded blues listeners will enjoy this well-rounded set, which is topped off by a lengthy live version of "Ain't Got No Money."

Eat A Peach 2001 Bound To Shine

Genre: Southern Rock
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:49:08
Size: 112,37 MB

United States

Album Notes

Every now and then, fate graces the world of music and brings together a combination of natural talent that stands out among today's noise and confusion. Eat A Peach was born to bring a modern concept to the high standards of the classic rock sound. Melodic guitar harmonies, soaring keyboard solos and dynamic rhythms weave in and out of their collection of down-to-earth original creations.

Eat A Peach began to take form in 1995 when founding member Curt Sanders and a group of musicians got together with the intent of paying tribute to one of their many influences. Steadily growing as a independent band, this group of well-rounded, multi-diversified musicians began adding their own original material into their shows as they entertained at local establishments, benefits, festivals and private parties throughout Indiana and Illinois.

With the completion of their 1999 debut CD, 'Turbulence & Thunder' came the opportunity to open for such great artists as Carlos Santana, The Marshall Tucker Band, Roger Waters and Blue Oyster Cult. They have also had the privilege to work with such production companies as SFX Entertainment, Jam Productions and Limited Access Entertainment.

Keeping their roots held firm in southern flavored, bluesy rock, Eat a Peach has broken new ground with 'Bound to Shine', adding new dimension to already fertile territory and giving them the opportunity to tour the Midwest & South Eastern USA including a performance on The Chicago FOX Bandstand at The Annual Taste of Chicago and recently as the opening support act for Jakob Dylan & The Wallflowers at the Star Plaza Theatre in Merrillville, Indiana, Jimmie Van Zant, Warner Bros. Country Recording Artist, Trick Pony and Southern Rockers, Jackyl.

'Bound to Shine' is the second release from "The Peach" and reflects their solid commitment to the spirit of music and the passions it yields.

Eat A Peach has won several local and regional awards including, "Most Promising Artist of 2000" and "Top 3 Artists of 2001" at the Annual Midwest Music Awards.

One thing is certain, Eat A Peach music is addictive, bringing fans back for more with songs written and performed to perfection. From mellow jams to danceable rockers, they've captured the spirit of music.
