Skip Towne & The Greyhounds 2003 Road Works Live
This latest release captures Chicago's Skip Towne And The Greyhounds as a 10 piece band "live" with a full horn section. The band has been regularly performing around the Midwest and frequently in Chicago area clubs as they continue to personify hard driving, heartfelt classic blues, ballads, and rockin' Chicago-style electric blues. Skip Towne & The Greyhounds' members can be found appearing anywhere from People Magazine to live Radio (WDCB 90.9 FM "Hambone's Blues Party"), TV and even movie soundtracks (science fiction thriller,"CHANGINGMAN", in video stores). Don't forget their stints with Jump'n the Saddle (#1 International gold hit on Atlantic with "The Curly Shuffle"), Traffic Jam, Midnight, Mickey & the Memories, Night Flight, RPM, Orange Hunters and Street Talk. WCKG 105.9 FM Buzz Kilman & Wendy Snyder recently chose "Skip Towne & The Greyhounds" as one of the TOP 10 Best band names in Chicago.
The dynamic, extra large-size vocals of Peter Quinn are a must to be heard. He sings the classics, the ballads, and the blues with such hard pushing drive and emotion that crowds always fall for Peter's special delivery! Everyone will hear a lifetime of devotion to the blues, jazz and rock in the incredible, emotional guitar playing of Harry Reinhart. He is well known for his work with Traffic Jam, Midnight and The Moonrays (2002 WXRT best instrumental CD of the year). Radiant chords and tasty solos are his specialty. Multi-instrumentalist "Brother John" Kattke provides exceptional performances on vocals, piano, organ and guitars. He has toured and played with such greats as Buddy Guy, Jr. Wells, Eric Clapton, The Black Crowes, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Otis Rush and Koko Taylor. The power-packed horn section excels at solo and section work and consists of veteran saxman, Tom "Shoes" Trinka, joined by Peter Quinn on harmonica, John Bowes on sax, Mike McGrath on trumpet and Russ Phillips on trombone. From steam-train rhythms to Chicago shuffle beats to soulful slow blues numbers, the pairing of Steve Beals' bass and Jim Murray's drums provide the solid foundation and unified pounding heartbeat that make the music a total groove.
This latest CD captures exhilarating live performances and features several special guest appearances including: first call Nashville session man John "Phloss" Rice on guitar, dobro, lap steel, mandolin and bozouki, the Nightcrawler's Rob Sulski on chromatic harp, John Blane on Tuba, and jazz bassist Eric Hochberg on upright, who is well known from his work with Pat Metheny and Paul Wertigo. Recorded at different Chicago area venues this CD features covers of Louis Jordan, Taj Mahal, Albert King, Johnny Winter, Junior Wells, Professor Long Hair, Elvis, Wilson Pickett and many more.
