If you want to hear a selection of blues in a wide variety of styles played with assurance and conviction this CD is for you. Paul Lamb is the best blues harmonica player around bar none! Backed on this recording by his long time guitar man Johnny Whitehill but with a new vocalist, Earl Green and different bass and drums, you get a taste of how exciting this group is live. From the opening track, aptly titled, "I'm a Bluesman", through the laid back, "Take Your Time", the rockin' rollin' "Days of Jive", the Sonny Terry style "Going Down" to the Chicago sound of "Open Up" this band shows its credentials and love of the music. A number of the tracks have a piano or organ giving added depth but shining through the entire album is the playing of Paul Lamb. If this guy were from the Mississippi delta rather than a 'Geordie', no doubt he would have the wider recognition he deserves. If you have not heard him then check out this CD. If you want to see an audience brought to its feet by driving, virtuoso harp playing, then go and see the band live. (http://www.amazon.co.uk)
