Album Notes
Tenry Johns has come a long way from his humble beginnings in Shelby, Mississippi. While cutting his teeth in early high school bands, he migrated to Chicago in the early 60's with John Lee Hooker.
After 30-plus years as a band leader for Denise LaSalle and Bill Coday and opening for stars such as Natalie Cole, The Spinners, Johnny Drummer, and Little Anthony and the Imperials, and recording several 45s with Curtis Mayfield's Gemico label, Tenry has made the leap to front man with his debut CD, "In Here Tonight."
With plenty of airplay in the Chicagoland area, loads of gigs every weekend, including Taste Of Chicago, Kingston Mines and Isaac Hayes', and many good reviews in such staples as Living Blues and Blues Review, Tenry Johns has become a name to watch.
His enthusiasm and engaging down-home demeanor have made him an audience favorite. Although Blues-based, Tenry also delves into R&B, Motown, and even Rock genres. With his act you will not only be entertained, but the interactive playfulness that Tenry Johns brings to the stage makes you feel as though you are part of the show as well.
