Review by Michael B. Smith
When Garfeel Ruff was passed over by Capitol records following the release of their debut album, Garfeel Ruff, the band spent several years in musical limbo. In 1984 they released their second LP on the independent Christopher label. All five of the band members, Ronnie Godfrey, his brother Rick Godfrey, Alan Pearson, Buddy Strong and Franklin Wilkie, contributed songs to the album. From the title track, "Born to Play," twritten by Ronnie Godfrey, to Wilkie's "Waiting On the Boat," the album rocks full-tilt boogie. The recording was done at Sandcastle Studios in Greenville, S.C., and produced by the band themselves.
