In terms of studio work, this is probably the greatest recording The Nighthawks ever did. The production quality is fabulous and the tunes are all great. "Nervous Breakdown" would be the closest to a dud, but it's still pretty solid. Guests on the album include Luther "Guitar Jr." Johnson, Pinetop Perkins, and "Steady Rollin" Bob Margolin.

In many ways this feels like a record where The Nighthawks are back-up band for other artists. That may sound like a slight, but to me it was one of the coolest aspects about them. The 'Hawks got a chance to back many of the original blues legends like Muddy, J.B. Hutto, and others. This fits right into that slot.

If you've never heard The Nighthawks, J&K isn't a bad place to start. You'll get a good understanding of what they were all about. (Al Super)
