Rehab Allstars 2015 Feel The Blues

Genre: Blues
Rate: 256 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:45:16
Size: 82,81 MB

New Zealand

The album by local Manawatu band the 'Rehab Allstars' has been nearly 3 years in the making. Between recording other musicians and bands over the last few years, lead guitarist/vocalist - Rex Bond, has had a prolific song writing period, where 40 songs have been written and worked up by the band and then whittled down to 10 for the album. Also included on the album are some of the bands' favourite cover tunes.

In the early days the band mainly played songs from their favourite artists such as The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and Tom Petty. Then, as the years go by, life hands out a hat full of experiences and crises, creating the inspiration to write great original songs.

Rex views the sound of the 'Rehab Allstars' as a natural extension of the music they have been making since teenagers. The band has really got him back to his roots. "It feels to me a lot more like it did when I first started playing music with Darryll and brother Murray when we were kids. Bands were always just three or four guys playing for the fun of it,'' Rex recalls.

Now, the 'Rehab Allstars' are pushing their music to another level.

"A lot of folks are having hard times these days,'' Rex says, ''and they need something to lift them up and make them smile. Our music does this in spades." The 'Rehab Allstars' will unquestionably be lifting spirits and filling dance floors the same way they have been doing for decades, only now, with new vocalist Paul Holcombe - they are packing an even more feral punch.

Davy Knowles Announces Release Of New Studio Album & Tour Dates

Davy Knowles has announced the release of a new studio album Three Miles From Avalon on October 14. Hot on the heels of the 2014's The Outsider, the full-length documentary Island Bound, and an extensive tour schedule, Isle of Man-born Knowles looks forwards with a collection of new songs marking a return to his roots and the sounds that first ignited his passion for music. Recorded exclusively in his adopted hometown of Chicago, the capital of electric blues provided Knowles with a landscape steeped in legend, inspiring him to creatively explore the genre of music he’s always loved - energetic, guitar driven blues-rock. The pre-order for vinyl, plus limited edition signed memorabilia, alongside bundled merchandising packages is live on Pledge Music here:

A digital pre-order campaign will be available globally two weeks prior to release on September 30 via all retailers and at www.davyknowles.com.

Knowles began the recording process for Three Miles From Avalon with a fresh approach, one that has resulted in a dynamic, gutsy sound. He offers, "I wanted to go back to the basics. The band and myself have racked up a lot of playing time together, and we have really started to gel. I wanted to capture that ‘live’ feel in the studio”. This led naturally to a back-to-basics approach, and a search for authenticity when it came to recording the new material. Knowles reveals, “My favorite sounding records are certainly older ones, recorded to tape, with minimal fuss or overdubs. I wanted that lovely warm, vintage sound that only tape and glowing tubes can do.”

A raw, vintage sound is evident in the album’s opening two tracks, the hard-driving "Ain’t Much Of Nothing" and the live favourite, "What You’re Made Of", a homage to one of Davy’s musical heroes Rory Gallagher. He offers, "Rory has been a huge influence for me, his energy and drive was so mesmerising. I wanted to get back to that high energy, big guitar riff style of writing.”

The album's third track "Falling Apart" adds dark drama to the record’s driving pace with its smoky verses and heavy, snarling, blues riff. Knowles reflects, "I’ve had this song kicking around for a long time, but it wasn’t until I had found this guitar pedal called ‘The Octron’ (one of only two pedals used by Knowles on the entire album) that the song and the riff really came to life, it’s got this wonderful menacing sound.”

Storytelling has always been a vital ingredient in Knowles’ work, and the repertoire introduced on Three Miles From Avalon continues this legacy of introducing indelible characters to the listener's mind. Weaving a moment of pathos into the track list is "Oxford MS" – a fictional account of shady dealing and violence. Knowles offers, "Songs with characters and stories have always grabbed me, and I wanted to write one in the blues and gospel vein. This one specifically is a story of blackmail, gambling and regret, though certainly not an autobiographical one!” The title track itself brings forth a personal reflection through songs which the artist states, "is really all about being slightly further away than where you want to be, and the frustration that comes with that. Avalon is this Arthurian legend, the Island that could never be found. It became my metaphor for things just out of my grasp.” The song also reveals the musical influences close to Davy’s heart, showcasing his love of blues and classic rock with affection.

The album closes on a hat tip to one of the all-time greats, Willie Dixon, with a re-working of his blues classic "What In The World." Performed with a live, ‘after hours’ feel, the track showcases Knowles’ confident and distinctive guitar playing, but also a powerful solo on the Hammond B3 by Andrew Toombs – demonstrating that Knowles and his tight-knit band all possess not only stunning technical ability, but soul too. There is no question that this long road Knowles has travelled finds the artist passing through a crossroads with clarity focused on the destination he strives to reach. Perhaps not as unattainable to reach as this fictional, mythical place he metaphorically alludes to in title.

Personnel on Three Miles From Avalon:

Davy Knowles - Guitars and Vocals
Bryan Doherty - Bass Guitar and Vocals
Andrew Toombs - Hammond Organ, Piano and Wurlitzer
Michael Caskey - Drums and Percussion

Walter Trout Announces North American Tour Dates

Walter Trout hits the highways of the U.S. and Canada this August for appearances to support his recently released live album ALIVE In Amsterdam. The tour begins on August 13 at the Cincinnati Blues Festival, and will wrap on the 30th in Denver, CO at the Oriental Theater. Following a return to Europe, Trout will be back in the U.S for appearances in December. Provogue / Mascot Label Group has shared a gratis download of "Say Goodbye To The Blues" with fans globally, which is available here: http://www.unlock.fm/83a. The Alive In Amsterdam album trailer can be screened here:

ALIVE in Amsterdam celebrates Trout's rebirth following a successful transplant in May 2014. His prior release, 2015's Battle Scars channeled his near-death experience into raw autobiographical songs. The live album captures Trout's performance November 28th, 2015 at Amsterdam's opulent Royal Theatre Carré. Trout shares, "We were rocking. If people are expecting a laid-back show, that's not what they'll get. This is potent stuff. That whole tour was kinda triumphant for me. Just to be back, after what I went through. But also to be playing with a renewed energy and commitment."

With songs pulled from every era of his five-decade career, the ALIVE In Amsterdam set presents the Luther Allison cover "I'm Back," to the plaintive B.B. King tribute "Say Goodbye To The Blues," which builds from neck-tingling guitar swells to a stunning virtuoso climax. Battle Scars is well-represented by the harmony-bolstered rocker "Almost Gone" and the raucous "Tomorrow Seems So Far Away," while Trout is joined by his son Jon for "Rock Me Baby," and even finds time for a fistful of fan favorites, including "The Love That We Once Knew" and "Marie's Mood." Trout recalls, "You can hear that a guy yells out for 'Marie's Mood.' I actually hadn't planned on doing that one..."

Confirmed appearances include:

Tameca Jones 2016 Head Over Heels

Jones’ voice is a powerhouse... with her soulful voice soaring over a slinky piano line and delivering a mournful anthem about lost love. (Texas Monthly)

Jackie Venson 2016 Next Life

Indie/blues guitar virtuoso/vocalist, Jackie Venson dropped her new video, "Next Life."

Austin’s got no shortage of indie blues musicians whose music sounds great from a coffeehouse stage, but it only has a few who can put together the total package of eclectic, soulful jams and a stridently powerful voice the way that Jackie Venson can. On her new single, “Next Life,” that package delivers with a slow burn that builds from a snaking rhythm to a blistering guitar solo, all while Venson’s vocals veer from cool restraint to a soaring climax.

Tameca Jones 2016 Hot And Bothered

Austin-based soul-pop songstress Tameca Jones just dropped her new single “Hot And Bothered” from her forthcoming EP.

Marked by heavy, dirty riffs, funky grooves and Jones' booming vocals, it's easy to see why so many see the potential in the singer. (Pure Volume)
