Richard Bargel With Klaus 'Major' Heuser & Band 2010 Live

Genre: Blues

Time: 01:07:53

Last One In The Row".

Dixie Peach 2002 Butta

Genre: Blues-Rock
Rate: 160 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 01:05:03
Size: 74,45 MB

United States

Album Notes

DIXIE PEACH began playing in 1973 when five kindred spirits decided to team up to create an energetic style of southern blues rock that features cutting edge slide guitar work, intense vocals, and stylistic keyboards. The band honed its talent by barnstorming the southeastern U.S. over a span of several years and serving as an opening act for Joe Walsh, Blue Oyster Cult, Ted Nugent, Roy Bucanon, and others.

Although DIXIE PEACH is a unique band, the influence of classic southern rock and blues artists is evident. Original material is written by TONY PAULUS (guitar, keyboards, and vocals) and IRA STANLEY (lead and slide guitar, and vocals). Other band members include STEVE WILLIAMS (keyboards), JAMES M. ROUSCULP (bass and vocals), and STEVE BENSON (drums and percussion). Each band member is a passionate, skilled musician. In October 2002, guitarist IRA STANLEY earned the "Best Guitarist" award at a competition at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum sponsored by Gibson Guitars.

This CD, BUTTA, includes six original songs that feature creative lyrics, intense lead and slide guitar work, and a hard-driving rhythm section. Also featured on BUTTA, are song tributes to artists that have had a significant influence on the band. These tributes include the Allman Brothers "It's Not My Cross To Bear", Eric Clapton's "Blues Power", and Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing".

Rocky Hill feat. Johnny Winter & Dr. John 1982 Texas Shuffle

Genre: Blues

Time: 00:38:41

Review by Thom Jurek

When Rocky Hill's Tomato Records debut appeared in 1982, he was out of step in a sense, and out of time. Had he showed up a year or so later he could have challenged fellow Texas bluesman Stevie Ray Vaughan for the title; Vaughan would have won, but it would have been a hell of a battle. Hill is a Texas bluesman who walks the line between T-Bone Walker, Lightnin' Hopkins, Albert King, and Johnny Winter -- who plays on this record along with Dr. John, the Leon Russell Singers, and the Muscle Shoals Horns.

Hill and Winter blaze on their guitars, Dr. John handles the keyboard chores and acts as music director, and Kevin Eggers handles the production chores on a set of screaming, razor-edged blues-rockers like Willie Dixon's "Hootchie Cootchie Man," "Preaching Blues," and a jam based on "Little Red Rooster." As for the originals, Hill's songs are not memorable, but his playing and singing are. On "Rock 'n' Roll" (what an original title), his gruff wailing voice is matched by a knife-edged guitar that growls, roars, and sets fire against Winter's. "Bad Girl Blues" is a moaning blues with wonderful interplay in the bridge and a sharp, pointed piano solo by Dr. John. The addition of Leon Russell's backing vocalists is a real treat; they add emotional depth to what would otherwise be just a barroom affair. They bring soul and a gospel feel to even the raunchiest of blues-rockers. While there is no ground broken here, none is lost either. This blows away run-of-the-mill blues-rock by an exponent of ten, and keeps the home fires burning for a return to tradition without giving up the volume.

Jackie Greene - Sal Valentino & Friends 2003 Positively 12th & K (A Bob Dylan Tribute)

Review by Richie Unterberger

On two separate nights in August 2002 and January 2003, several singer/songwriters and musicians in the local scene gathered at Marilyn's on 12th & K Streets in Sacramento, CA to pay tribute to Bob Dylan. Highlights from those two evenings are assembled on this 13-song CD, Positively 12th and K: A Bob Dylan Tribute which, though billed to Jackie Greene/Sal Valentino & Friends, is more of a various-artists compilation. Beau Brummels fans should note that Valentino sings lead on just four of the tracks; singer/songwriter Greene takes lead on four others, with the Jackie Greene Band serving as the backing group for nine of the cuts. Lesser-known singers Mick Martin, Sherman Baker, Lew Fratis, and Billy Harper, Jr. serve as the vocal frontmen on the remainder of the program. These are good musicians doing energetic, straightforward covers of an assortment of Dylan tunes both celebrated ("Subterranean Homesick Blues," "Isis," "It's All over Now, Baby Blue," "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right," "All Along the Watchtower," "I Shall Be Released") and more obscure ("Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?," "Not Dark Yet," "Everything Is Broken").

It sounds like everyone on-stage and in the audience had a jovial time, but as an audio document, it's less exciting than it must have been to be there, for obvious reasons. The existence of not just the more exciting Bob Dylan originals, but also many other more exciting and imaginative Dylan covers over the preceding 40 years, doesn't put this high on the list for those seeking interesting or novel reworkings of the Dylan canon.
