Review by Michael B. Smith

From the opening riff of "The Preacher" to the melodic strains of "Follow My Heart," New York's Frostbit Blue delivers a pill that's easy to swallow, but highly addictive. "Joannie and Johnnie" comes through the speakers radio-ready, sounding like a sure-fire FM chart topper. It kind of sounds like a mix of Steely Dan and Styx, but there's always that underlying Southern rock influence that Nick Gravelding brings to the party with his electric and acoustic slide guitars and vocals. "Believe" has some very hot twin leads reminiscent of the Outlaws, which show up again in the excellent "Voices in the Hall," which could have easily been an Outlaws song, had it not been written by Nick's father, Scott. "So Long" begins with some smoking slide, and moves full speed ahead into an almost Santana sounding rocker, with Lynyrd Skynyrd side effects. The album features two excellent ballads. "The Child I Used to Be" and "Follow My Heart" are beautiful compositions worthy of any movie soundtrack. James Cameron missed out on this one when he was choosing songs for Titanic. Move over, Celine. With songs like "You Take Me High" and "Fade Away" there's living proof that Frostbit Blue are leaders, not followers.

They manage to bring each members influences, from Billy Joel to the Marshall Tucker Band, into the group, blend them together nicely and turn out a totally original sound that is as infectious as any other airborne virus. Once you are infected, you'll find yourself listening to their CD on a daily basis. Like a junkie in need of another fix, you'll feel the bite of the ice. Oh, the sweet pain.
