Chrystyna Marie 2015 Loaded Gun (Single)
A single for your consideration from Canadian-born blues/pop songwriter and vocalist Chrystyna Marie entitled "Loaded Gun". Although she has a long performance history and has been represented by several labels, Chrystyna decided to go it alone in order to get the sound she wanted.
About the new material, Marie says "Breath is life, and life is music. I wanted to create music from personal experiences and true emotions. Something the everyday person can relate to and build strength from having been exposed to it. With a raw and gritty feel to emulate these experiences and emotions".
Originally hailing from Toronto, Crystyna Marie sings with a powder keg voice over a cocktail of grungy blues and pop. The classically trained Canadian-born singer has supported Ontario acts and been featured as a demo singer on indie labels from as young as 18 years old.
Marie has taken first place in various categories in the Kiwanis Music Festival 2 years in a row. She's taken lead roles in local community plays; West Side Story as Maria and Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Over the years, she has racked up a long list of smaller roles in music videos, television and was also the lead singer in an LA founded pop group called Greencat. Writing and releasing her own music, with her own unique voice, however, is where her true passion lies.
Believing the classics are just as essential as modern favorites, she finds musical inspiration in everyone from Janis Joplin, Ottis Redding and Etta James to Selena and Christina Aguilera.
Although Crystyna has been represented by several independent labels over the years, she decided that in order to shape the sound she wanted, releasing music on her own was absolutely necessary. Her first solo single, "Loaded Gun", is proof that this was the right choice, revealing the first taste of Marie's gritty take on the blues. The EP is due to be released on Feb 29, 2016.
About the new material, Marie says "Breath is life, and life is music. I wanted to create music from personal experiences and true emotions. Something the everyday person can relate to and build strength from having been exposed to it. With a raw and gritty feel to emulate these experiences and emotions".

Tomás Doncker 2015 The Mess We Made
Doncker is a world renown blues artist most often associated with the late 1970's No Wave scene in New York City. He's now putting his years of talent to work to give all of us a glimpse into the bitter realities of modern America.
The message has been getting through to the masses thus far, receiving critical acclaim from the Huffington Post, Contact Music, Louder Than War, and many others.
Doncker says of The Mess We Made: “It all started on The day of the Charleston Massacre. Given the fact that the recent "Road to Charleston" was emotionally taxing enough for me (aka:Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Ferguson, Eric Garner, Baltimore - not to mention some of the less publicized events around the country and the world), the heinous events which occurred on June 17, 2015 pushed me over the edge. I was overwhelmed with rage, hatred, confusion and disillusionment. I had no place to put these feelings. I had no idea how to process them. So, in a selfish attempt to maintain my own sanity I did the only thing I could do -- write about it. By Sunday, June 21, I had written 4 new songs. Within ten days I had recorded the 8 songs that would become The Mess We Made.”
Yes,It does feel like I've only put
a band-aid on this bullet wound,
a sonic salve to temporarily ease
the sting. Maybe one day the bleeding will stop...Maybe...
One day...

The Bob Lanza Blues Band 2015 Hero To Zero
Genre: Blues
Time: 00:45:55
Bob Lanza above all else is a Bluesman and “From Hero To Zero!” features the stinging blues guitar work we have grown accustomed to from the New Jersey native. On this disc, Lanza really demonstrates his significant song writing ability. The title track “From Hero To Zero!” chronicles the ups and downs of a Bluesman’s life. Additionally Bob showcases a rich, perfect blues voice with which he tells his tales. Bob has a story to tell and he delivers it in style!
For his debut on the Connor Ray Music Label Lanza did most of the recording in his home state and then traveled to Texas to work with fellow label mate and renowned harpman Steve Krase. The CD also features tremendous work from Randy Wall (Trudy Lynn band) on keys and organ with a special cameo appearance from Trudy Lynn on background vocals.

Stranded Cruiser 2015 Pretty, Fantastic
Whitby Garage-punk band Stranded Cruiser are officially releasing their debut album 'Pretty, Fantastic' on October 30th. An album release show is coming in November, details on their way soon.
Taking a little taste of punk and rock 'n' roll, the band has been refining garage music since 2011. Most notably, Stranded Cruiser’s performances release aggression and rage in an unapologetic manner. Not everything can be blissful and there needs to be people to yell about it.
Stranded Cruiser has been steadily building a following in the local independent music scene for almost five years due to the support of an audience sharing similar DIY ideals. The band continues to captivate audiences throughout Toronto and the GTA with its raw power.
'Pretty, Fantastic' is an album capturing several years of blood, sweat and tears for Stranded Cruiser. The energy evident throughout reinforces their crazy and wild attitude on stage. Opening the album is the catchy, guitar-riff based ‘Shark Tank’, which criticizes the state of modern music with pained melodies over a sporadic rhythm section. 'Fuck'n Real' seizes the youthful audience and swings them through soft verses and waves of noise in the chorus. Songs like ‘Another Misery’ and ‘Mother Abbey’ are classic punk rock that give you that familiar teenage angst feel. It's easy to identify the influences of Pixies, Fugazi, Cage the Elephant, and Iggy Pop on this album. Stranded Cruiser has tweaked the garage rock formula just enough to sound new again, and there stage show takes it to a whole new level.

Tomás Doncker 2015 Church is Burning Down
Tomás Doncker is back with a truly explosive socially conscious single "Church is Burning Down" – a track that provides a glimpse into the bitter realities of modern race relations in America. This is just the first part in Doncker's greatest artistic statement to date, his forthcoming album "The Mess We Made."
It all started on The day of the Charleston Massacre. Jessi Teich - Real Jazz That’s Fresh and New
Just a quick note to let you know that 10-time international songwriting award-winner JESSI TEICH (pronounced TEACH) hit a major milestone this week in her hometown of Philadelphia when “Sunday Morning,” from the New Jersey native’s stylish new Paris-recorded album, TWISTED SOUL (Madame Freak), landed at No. 1 this week (April 20) on tastemaker jazz station WRTI-FM’s (90.1) listener-voted “Jazz Hot 11 Countdown.”
“I’m really glad that someone’s doing something that’s real jazz, that’s fresh and new,” says WRTI program director Maureen Malloy. “It’s things like these that are going to get young people interested in the jazz genre.”
And that wasn’t the only good news for Jessi this week. She also has started getting airplay in Philly on Triple A tastemaker WXPN-FM (88.5), and last weekend played to a near capacity audience in her headlining debut at the Sellersville Theater, in the Philly suburbs – in a matinee performance!

Dirk Hamilton 1978 Meet Me At The Crux
Genre: Rock
Rate: 160 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:55:54
Size: 63,93 MB
Great lyrics - Jackson Browne with equal parts Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and early Springsteen. Rocking sound - think early Van Morrision crossed with John Prine and John Hiatt. I love all of these artists, but they still don't adequately describe Dirk's music.
They're only reference points for you - this is a wild ride thru some unique territory, from the opener "Mouth Full Of Suck" (about the vampire-like people we all know and hate), through the bite of "Tell-A-Vision Time" ("You don't really wanna talk, ya just want friendly monkey noise") and the insanity of the battle tune that is "How Do You Fight Fire" to the bliss of self-awareness in "Every Inch A Moon".
Check out the lyrics on Dirk's website http://www.dirkhamilton.com/04disc/t_crux.htm. But this album can only be properly experienced in its entirety, over time, as it grabs you with constantly unfolding new delights. Long unavailable on cd - grab it if you like Van or Bruce or great lyrics or ... pleasant surprises. You say there's no good music anymore? Hey, it all comes down to you! (Brickbats)

Blues Wire 1988 Who's Calling
Genre: Blues
Rate: 224 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:34:47
Size: 55,70 MB
Blues Wire started their career in 1983 as Blues Gang and quickly established themselves as one of the best European blues bands. Bluesmen visiting Greece in the 80's-90's would often enlist them as their backing band because of their deep knowledge of the blues. They've backed Louisiana Red, Katie Webster, John Hammond, Carey and Lurrie Bell, Angela Brown and many others. Having seen many famous blues artists live, I can honestly say The Blues Wire were up there with the best of them.
This album was their first under the "Blues Wire" moniker. The production is way ahead of all other albums of the Greek Alternative scene of the time and thankfully free of 80's trappings that now make you wince when you listen to old "electric blues" albums of that era. The sound is definitively electric but not overtly rock. The playing is excellent throughout and sound is reminiscent of 50's-60's Chicago blues. Orchestration features two guitars (lead and rhythm or slide), bass, drums and the occasional keyboard and harmonica. Highlights include classics "Who's Been Talking" and "Diving Duck" and Zaikos originals "Fat Meets Bones" (instrumental) and "Blues Junkie" (with female lead vocals). (kostas_ef)

To listen to the album in it's entirety is like hopping on a tram and taking a sonic tour of American music of the 1920's and 30's. "The Lonesome Road" is exceptional and this version of "Mysterious Mose" with it's Sleepy Hollow-esque backing vocals even comes as close to perfection as the R. Crumb and his Cheap Suit Serenaders version Brozman played on in the seventies. Possibly the most enjoyable album I have ever heard. (D. Christie)

Albert Collins 1978 Ice Pickin'
Genre: Blues
Rate: 256 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:38:10
Size: 69,97 MB
Prior to the release of this CD in 1978, Albert Collins had not recorded since 1975. This three year hiatus was due to some disappointing results with his prior, and sometimes obscure, recordings with Imperial records and Blue Thumb. But that all changed when he signed with Bruce Iglauer and Dick Shurman of Alligator records. From that point on, Albert began his quest to become the consummate showman and premier bluesman. The rest, as they say, is history.
On this CD, Collins is joined by Icebreakers, AC Reed on sax, Casey Jones on Drums, Aron Burton on bass and Allen Batts on keyboard. There is plenty of guitar solo's that are, well, down right chilling and the sax of Reed is sensational. While Albert would later develop a knack for some excellent and sometimes witty lyrics, here is best stuff is material written by others such as the slow burner "Cold, Cold Feeling", or the funky "Honey Hush". Hints of what would come later are contained in Collin's "Master Charge". Sit back, turn it up and enjoy it. You just don't find stuff like this anymore. (deepbluereview)
