review by Jesse Jarnow

Rising his band from a nearly quarter-century slumber, songwriter Perry Jordan leads Heartsfield through their first record since the late '70s. The band's sound remains firmly in the decade of their birth, blending country elements with dinosaur rock force to create a populist guitar army. The sound is hulking but retains a surprising amount of grace for its makeup. Jordan's lyrics dutifully move through the clichés that drove the genre out of existence to begin with, though they do so with a certain sincerity. The music remains as tasteful as could be expected for the approach, and the band manages to achieve a classic rock sound that is not so much referential as it is genuine.
