Sir Oliver's Blues Distillery 1993 Beware Of Cats

Genre: Blues
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:54:06
Size: 123,75 MB

Album Notes

These cuts have been made on the 1st, 8th + 9th of July 1993 in Graz and after their live - debut CD - "ROUGH BRAND" this is an important extension about their Blues, because Sir Oliver, together with his Blues Distillery, stepped into the studio and, again they had some guests invited.

Flashy actions became real and equipped by a thrilling rhythm. They are soloing at full blast and the vocal contribution is natural and honest. How wonderful, that such a first class band comes out of Austria, and internationally there is no need to fear competition.

Beside their powerful and spontaneous musicianship, earthy lyrics and a fascinating groove engrave the overall picture of 13 originals.

A Blues Band who invites you to "Just have fun and never look back". So, "Beware of Sir Oliver's Blues Distillery", just one sip can make you addicted! (Fritz Svacina, Blues Life Journal)

The Eric Steckel Band 2002 A Few Degrees Warmer

Genre: Blues
Rate: 256 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 01:21:37
Size: 151,71 MB

Album Notes

Originally from Pennsylvania where he was first known for his energetic guest appearances with many of the area's finest performers, Eric's early musical influences inspired him to pick up his first Fender Stratocaster at the age of nine.

There was no looking back.......

Eric's passion for the Blues and natural command of the scene enabled him to eventually share the stage with nationally known artists including Bob Margolin, Debbie Davies, James Armstrong, Steve Guyger, Kenny Neal, Chris Beard, Tommy Castro, Joe Kubek, Bnois King, Solomon Burke, Ronnie Baker Brooks and Hubert Sumlin.

In 2004, Eric joined John Mayall and The Bluesbreakers on their Scandinavian Tour as the "youngest person ever on stage with the Bluesbreakers". Eric left a lasting impression on Mayall who later invited Eric to join him in the studio during the "Road Dogs" sessions. Eric's lead guitar work is featured on the track "Chaos in the Neighborhood".

With a feeling and natural ability that just can't be explained for someone so young, Eric delivers a Freddy-BB-Albert King influenced performance with an intensity and skill that never fails to amaze anyone who sees him. With a style at times reminiscent of an early-Clapton, Eric combines a variety of influences while reminding everyone the real thing comes from the heart and soul.

The Eric Steckel Band's CD, A Few Degrees Warmer, was recorded LIVE in April 2002 when Eric was just 11 years old.

Michael Packer Blues Band 2007 Live @ Sweet Rhythm

Genre: Blues
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:41:21
Size: 94,60 MB

Album Notes

This album was recorded live at Sweet Rhythm a famous jazz club in New York City on February 1, 2006. It features blues perrenial Michael Packer on guitar and vocals. James Cotton's piano player David Maxwell. Guitarist Jimmy Vivino from the Conan O'Brien show. Lou Marini from the Blues Brothers and Saturday Night live. Cuban born harmonica ace Felix Cabrera. Ed Jackson on bongos. King Bear on bass and Nat Seeley on drums.

Review by BLUES REVUE FEB-MARCH 07 ISSUE TOM HYSLOP

If Michael Packer's earthy singing takes a backseat to his musicians, it's testimony to the Staten Island's guitarist's ability to assemble a band. A cast of aces, David Maxwell (piano), Jimmy Vivino (guitar), Felix Cabrera (harp) and Lou Marini (sax) joins the band for the self released Live @ Sweet Rhythm.

Apart from solos all around, Knock Myself Out' contains a dynamite sax/slide guitar duel and Packer's Big Apple based adaptation of 'Born in Chicago' rips. The playlist is mostly limited to standards but it is still entertaining including 'Somebody Have Mercy', 'The Thrill Has Gone' and 'I'm Tore Down. Things get really cooking towards the album's end with Marini and Maxwell hammering out 'Killing Floor'and when 'As the Years Go Passing By' showcases a haunting harmonica lead-in and Cabrera's sensitive vocal.

Well, been waiting a while to be able to spring this news on you. "Live and Kicking at Lexington" Has Been Released by Wounded Bird Records (a company that specializes in reissuing classic rock albums on CD).

Now for the back story. August 8th and 9th of 1970, PG&E did 2 shows at the federal drug rehab center in Lexington, KY. The filmmaker Lawrence Schiller was there to make a documentary of the band, the facility and it's inmates. Columbia (now owned by Sony) was also there, recording the shows for a planned live album. When Schillers film didn't go into national release (it was only shown twice in California before being shelved by a judge) Columbia chose to stop work on the record.

Recent research has uncovered that Sony still has the tapes... about 9 unmixed multi-tracks and 4 stereo masters. These stereo masters are now available on CD thanks to Wounded Bird. This is a once in a lifetime chance to hear the band in their natural element, on stage. No other full live album has ever been released by PG&E. (http://www.pacific-gas-electric.com)

Tino Gonzales Biography

Born in the Southside of the Bluestown Chicago in 1951, Tino Gonzales, grew up with the sounds of Latin, Blues, R & B, Jazz, and Soul. All have contributed to his musical foundations. Having served his apprenticeship with a wide range of blues, pop and jazz greats he eventually set off on his solo career in 1985.

But as a Mexican American with a streak of Arabic heritage, the Latin blood flows equally in his veins. His music encompasses all of these varied cultural influences resulting in a unique sound that can not easily be labeled in terms of conventional categories – but if one had to sum it up in one word it would have to be passion!

Gonzales' incredible virtuoso style is so fluid it seems as though he pours his soul right into his guitar as he floats up and down its neck, coaxing from it sounds and vibrations hitherto unknown. He changes styles more often than many musicians know how to change keys and in any direction he chooses, whether Latin, Jazz, Blues, R & B or Soul, he plays with the same passionate fire and fluidity.

As top US westcoast DJ Steve Pringle from KMHD radio in Portland, Oregon once put it, 'I have no frikken idea why you aren't better known. Not for lack of talent, sound, writing...it's all good!`

... One of the reasons undoubtedly is Gonzales free-spirited and independent way of thinking, which has earned him the reputation of being a maverick in the business. He resisted the temptation of signing with major labels on more than one occasion, because he refuses to let himself be exploited, run down and spat out by the industry as he has seen happening to so many of his friends and peers.

Instead, he goes his own way, sometimes a rough and tumble road, but free from any demands from labels who require extensive touring. After years of touring the US and Canada Gonzales grew tired of the same old Club and Festival scene, packed his Hobo bag and decided to sail east. Since his arrival on European shores Gonzales has certainly made some big waves over here.

Having finally found a label he could work with he signed with one of the leading European independents, the French Blues label Dixiefrog Records. So far he has recorded four CDs for them, each one a masterpiece in its own right with the unique Tino Gonzales touch. All have received rave reviews in the international press.

Currently he has signed with the Belgium label MusicAvenue. His musical career reflects a process of transformation and artistic growth that is becoming more apparent with every new CD he records. Traveling throughout Europe, from France, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, England, Luxemburg and Germany, to Spain, Turkey, Italy and even a few eastern European countries such as Slovenia and Hungary, Gonzales has become deeply influenced by the Old World roots of the same soulful music he grew up on in the States.

Spanish, Gypsy, Arabic and African influences, which originally contributed to both, Latin and Black American music, have all found their way into his repertoire. His unique blend of Latin, Jazz and Blues fusion has resulted in a phenomenal melange of musical influences all of which speak the same language - passion.

Passion for music, passion for love, passion for life – and compassion for the state of the world. Gonzales' passion is not just show. He deeply cares about humanity and planet earth. To him the essence of music is about communication and conveys a message that applies to the human condition everywhere and throughout all of time. He plays and sings the sounds of peace, love, anger, humor, joy and the politics of the world. One of his songs, an exquisite slow blues tune, gives a message of peace to the world, appealing to each and everyone of us not to add 'No More Misery'...

Museo Rosenbach 1973 Zarathustra

Genre: Progressive Rock

Time: 00:39:34

Review by ahmetbolanyig

One of the masterpieces of the Italian symphonic movement, this album is based on the records of 1972. With previously Deep Purple, Uriah Heep in interpreting time as part of groups have found their own line and began to give place to the more experimental elements. Next to the dark and heavy symphonic prog music elements in a manner befitting the album's concept was collated. Mentioned concepts, Friedrich Nietzsche's Zarathustra in his book "superior man" is based on the concept.

20:54 luxury, "Zarathustra" on a progressive track is one of the most powerful entry. Places, the dark atmosphere, bombastic vocals and jazz music for transitions to a twenty-minute ride out to the listener. It is a much too tiring. Do not bother people. But tiring. "Degli Uomini" brother, a symphonic jazz work of the other. Is gay. Will accompany his melodies. "Della Natura" the most complex part of the album. Attacks and transitions abound. The rest will not tell the sex. It, too, is a progressive course. "Dell 'Eterno Ritorno" is the album's closing track. Hard riffs, high-tempo, syncopated drums and atrophy of the audience will atrophy.

Eela Craig 1978 Missa Universalis

Genre: Progressive Rock
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:42:24
Size: 96,98 MB

Review by Proghead

Now here's something you don't hear too much in the world of prog rock: a Christian prog rock album. But EELA CRAIG did such an album in 1978. "Missa Universalis", their fourth album takes a Roman Catholic Mass to a prog rock context. Luckily they didn't have to water down their prog rock sound to have a religious theme. At this point, they were playing a rather lush style of prog rock heavy on the string synths, not unlike what ELOY was doing at the same time, only more polished, and surprisingly (given EELA CRAIG were Austrians), no ridiculously accented vocals like you do Frank Bornemann. For this concept, the members of the band decided to sing in four languages, Latin, French, German, and English, quite a lot for the band to do, put they pulled it off.

Without a doubt, the opening cut, "Kyrie" is by far the highlight. The droning string synths and a voice that repeats "Kyrie Eleison" over and over really trips me out. "Credo (Part 1)" is a pretty nice ballad while "Credo (Part 2)" tends to be a bit more on the funky side. "Sanctus" borrowed from Anton Bruckner, and at the end goes for a funky jam reminescent of "One Niter". The closing song, "Amen" reminds me a little of VANGELIS circa "Heaven & Hell".

David Maxwell 1997 Maximum Blues Piano

Review by Cub Koda

Maxwell's solo debut has been a long time in coming, but it been worth the wait, as he neatly sidesteps the curse of the non-vocalist bandleader. Bringing in Darrell Nulisch for one vocal ("Heart Attack") only distracts from this fine instrumental showcase for David's prodigious abilities. Maxwell literally sparkles on the gospel-ish sanctified shout of "Sister Laura Lee," the New Orleans strut of "Breakdown On the Bayou," the boogie woogie classic "Honky Tonk Train" and "Manhattan Max," trading licks throughout with guest stars Ronnie Earl, Duke Levine and saxman supreme Mark "Kaz" Kazanoff, basically the cream of the New England blues mafia. The fact that Maxwell has learned his slow blues lessons well is exhibited on the Pete Johnson tribute, "Down at P.J.'s Place," "Deep Into It" and a seven-minute-plus rendition of Avery Parrish's "After Hours." This is more than just an impressive debut; this is a record of great playing and uncommon musical depth.

Pacific Gas & Electric 1970 Are You Ready

Genre: Blues
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:39:49
Size: 91,08 MB

Review by Richie Unterberger

Anchored by Pacific Gas & Electric's sole hit "Are You Ready," the album of the same name -- actually their third LP -- treads a thin line between eclecticism and confusion, and is actually weaker on the whole than its predecessor, 1969's Pacific Gas & Electric. Certainly the ominous yet inspirational gospel-funk-psychedelia of "Are You Ready" was the strongest track, and to this day the only one that most casual rock fans remember. Yet other cuts on the album indicated they couldn't decide whether to be a heavy blues-rock group ("Hawg for You"), a more soul-dipped version of the Band ("Staggolee"), a swampy soul-rock outfit (a cover of the Isley Brothers' "The Blackberry"), or, least convincingly, cry-in-your-beer honky tonk balladeers ("Mother, Why Don't You Cry?").

Mighty Sam McClain 1986 Live In Japan

Genre: Blues
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 01:11:16
Size: 162,97 MB

Review by Jason Ankeny

A sophisticated bluesman in the tradition of Bobby "Blue" Bland or Joe Williams, Mighty Sam McClain had not recorded in some 13 years when he cut a demo of song called "Pray" in 1984. The demo attracted the attention of a Japanese promoter, who subsequently coordinated the Japanese tour from which this live album, recorded in Tokyo, is culled. Despite the presence of ace session guitarist Wayne Bennett, McClain's backing band is sub-standard and lifeless; few moments generate any heat.

Cuby & Blizzards & Eddy Boyd 1967 Praise The Blues

Genre: Blues
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:37:31
Size: 86,07 MB

Cuby & The Blizzards reaches the top position in music magazine Hitweek, followed by performances both in and outside Holland, from Oosthesselerbrug to Brussels, from The Hague to West Berlin, from Prague to London. But fame takes its toll: Hans Kinds and Willy Middel leave the band. Jaap van Eik (Blues Dimension) is the only replacement on bass. The legendary album Groeten uit Grollo is released, featuring Herman Brood, Jaap van Eik and Hans Waterman.

Eddie Boyd (1914) may be the first black man in Grolloo. This legendary blues singer (coming from the same cotton plantation as Muddy Waters) from the Mississippi Delta is one of the first black American blues singers traveling to Europe. In 1966, during his UK tour with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, both end up at Cuby’s farm in Grolloo. This first personal meeting with the black blues singer results in the Eddie Boyd and the Blizzards album Praise the Blues, which is followed by a tour. (http://home.wxs.nl/~dbron/cubyuk0.htm)

The Yardbirds 1972 Blue Eyed Blues

Genre: Blues-Rock
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:42:47
Size: 97,89 MB

Review by Cub Koda

A hodgepodge of tracks, mostly pulled from the Yardbirds' catalog. Over half the disc is devoted to Clapton, bringing together two songs of the band backing up Sonny Boy Williamson, "Five Long Years" and "I'm a Man" from the Five Live Yardbirds album, two studio tracks from their first album, and three tracks from the Howlin' Wolf London Sessions. Jeff Beck is represented with a band-track-only outtake of "The Nazz Are Blue," under its original working title of "Jeff's Blues." The final track with Page is taken from a London studio session backing Sonny Boy Williamson. If you have a decent Yardbirds collection, you probably have most of these elsewhere.

The Racky Thomas Band 2002 Troubled All The Time

Genre: Blues
Rate: 224 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:50:53
Size: 81,56 MB

This is an amazingly authentic band with lots of grit and soul. Led by George, ''Racky'' Thomas, who sings with unaffected ease & blows powerful high compression harp, the band sounds like they have been together for years. Guitarist Nick Adams plays sympathetic to the songs and never overstays his welcome while drummer Jon Ross hits the skins with soul & restraint. All but one of the songs are originals but sound like they come from years before. The band has talent on many different levels and special guest guitarist Troy Gonyea adds fire to 3 of the tunes.

Phillip Walker 1989 The Bottom Of The Top

Genre: Blues
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:35:05
Size: 80,24 MB

Review by Bill Dahl

There weren't many blues albums issued during the early '70s that hit harder than this one. First out on the short-lived Playboy logo, the set firmly established Walker as a blistering axeman sporting enduring Gulf Coast roots despite his adopted L.A. homebase. Of all the times he's cut the rocking "Hello My Darling," this is indeed the hottest, while his funky, horn-driven revival of Lester Williams's "I Can't Lose (With the Stuff I Lose)" and his own R&B-drenched "It's All in Your Mind" are irresistible. After-hours renditions of Sam Cooke's "Laughing & Clowning" and Long John Hunter's "Crazy Girl" are striking vehicles for Walker's twisting, turning guitar riffs and impassioned vocal delivery.

Henrik Freischlader Band 2008 Live

Genre: Blues
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 02:52:25
Size: 394,33 MB

Germany

Within 3 years, Henrik Freischlader celebrated 3 successful CD releases and over 500 concerts, which catapulted him to the top of the Blues scene. As some music critics prophesized at the beginning of his career, Henrik is now exactly where he always wanted to be. Blues is his language, a living form for expressing pain and sorrow, anger and rage, humor and happiness, through which he offers the faithful and thankful audience a new inside into the virtuosity of his seemingly limitless musical abilities.

Numerous appearances with blues legends such as Peter Green, Johnny Winter and Joe Bonamassa have introduced Henrik Freischlader to a larger audience. However, it was at the small concerts in front of a smaller audience, which could be jam-packed and intense, where the "blues-spark" connected him with his audience.

No wonder then that this "spark" has carried on, and the status of his concerts as an "insider tip" has gotten more and more blues fans even outside of Germany interested. As a consequence, a faithful fan base in France, Poland, Luxembourg, Austria and Switzerland. The requests for shows have multiplied and it will be exciting to see where Henrik Freischlader and his band will be playing in the future. (http://www.myspace.com/henrikfreischlader)
