Crossroads Motel is a fitting title for the latest from the Sonny Moorman Group. The trio has not only visited the cross section between Blues and Rock -- they've grabbed a room and set up camp for the long haul. (Hope they don't charge by the hour!) Moorman is a masterly guitarist and vocalist, well versed in Blues' various forms. But as Crossroads expertly shows, it's a fool's move to try to pin Moorman down to just one thing.

The album kicks off with the crackle of old vinyl before kicking in full-bore for the slide-guitar and harmonica-drenched "Rainmaker," which is reminiscent of Alt.Blues revivalist The Black Keys in its riff-and-melody mirror imaging. After throwing stakes down in the Blues, Moorman and Co. jam the gears and skid into "I Forget to Forget You," a remarkable, highly melodic slab of Heartland Rock that wouldn't be out of place on your favourite Rock radio station. From there, the trio skips between roadhouse rumble ("Texas Blues"), sky-is-cryin' balladry ("Last Call"), Hendrixian expansiveness ("Remembering Cal"), creeping, smoky swingers ("Blues After Dark"), monstrous Riff Rock ("Chance We Take For Love," "House of Thunder") and reverential acoustic minimalism ("Souled Out"), never sounding like musical tourists at any turn.

The Sonny Moorman Group is the full package -- ace chops, soulful vocals, proficient songwriting and a daredevilish adventurousness that not only helps make the band dynamic and multifarious, but also gives them a distinct identity in a field where distinctiveness isn't always evident, let alone celebrated. Atlas Records is proud to announce the release of SONNY MOORMAN's "Live As Hell" cd with 14 new songs recorded live. It was co-produced by Sonny and noted producer-engineer-mixer, Erwin Musper whose diverse credits include working with such artists as Van Halen, David Bowie, Elton John, Jeff Beck, Mick Jagger and Yngwie Malmsteen. The sound quality on this cd is truly incredible and Sonny's guitars and vocals have never sounded better.

The cd contains a perfect blend of blues and rock classics including Key to the Highway, Rattlesnake Shake, Cincinnati Jail, Highway 61 Revisited, Wham, Oh Well and a couple of real surprises.

Sonny was the runner-up at the 2007 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Blues Festival Guides's 2008 Blues Artist on the Rise and has garnered numerous other awards and accolades in recent years. Biography by Richard Skelly

"Power blues" is how Ohio-based bluesman Sonny Moorman describes the music he creates with his trio, the Dogs.
Moorman and his band have extended the 1960's blues and blues-rock revival into the new millennium, borrowing from their prime influences, black and white: Eric Clapton, early Fleetwood Mac, Rory Gallagher, Roy Buchanan, Jimi Hendrix and B.B. King.

Moorman, raised by parents who ran nightclubs in the Cincinnati area, was exposed to guitar maestro Lonnie Mack, up close and personal, at an impressionable age.

Moorman didn't begin playing out professionally until he was into his junior year in college at Michigan State University. After getting out of college, he spent 15 years playing in bands in the Detroit and Los Angeles areas before coming back home to Hamilton, Ohio, near Cincinnati. Highlights of his time in Los Angeles included tenures with the Tomcats, which included members of Sly and the Family Stone, as well as with Warren Zevon's touring band.
