Jessi Teich - Real Jazz That’s Fresh and New

Just a quick note to let you know that 10-time international songwriting award-winner JESSI TEICH (pronounced TEACH) hit a major milestone this week in her hometown of Philadelphia when “Sunday Morning,” from the New Jersey native’s stylish new Paris-recorded album, TWISTED SOUL (Madame Freak), landed at No. 1 this week (April 20) on tastemaker jazz station WRTI-FM’s (90.1) listener-voted “Jazz Hot 11 Countdown.”

“I’m really glad that someone’s doing something that’s real jazz, that’s fresh and new,” says WRTI program director Maureen Malloy. “It’s things like these that are going to get young people interested in the jazz genre.”

And that wasn’t the only good news for Jessi this week. She also has started getting airplay in Philly on Triple A tastemaker WXPN-FM (88.5), and last weekend played to a near capacity audience in her headlining debut at the Sellersville Theater, in the Philly suburbs – in a matinee performance!

Jessi Teich 2015 Twisted Soul

Commonly considered an old blues, jazz, and soul singer-songwriter trapped in a young woman’s body, 10-time international songwriting award-winner JESSI TEICH (pronounced TEACH) brings a pop sensibility to her stylish new album, TWISTED SOUL, recorded in Paris and OUT TODAY on Madame Freak Records.

TWISTED SOUL, hailed as “wildly creative” by AXS.com and “a solid and sultry crossover album worthy of the highest praises” (Playback: stl), is the latest chapter of a success story based on hard work and a strong connection with a growing army of fans in the U.S. and Europe for the artist who was raised in Clinton, NJ, and has been based in Philadelphia since graduating Magna Cum Laude from the Berklee College of Music. Just selected one of “5 Indie Artists You Should Hear” by Mocha Man Style, Jessi celebrates by kicking off a spring U.S. tour with a CD Release Event at the Sellersville Theater, in Sellersville, PA, on April 18. She also will be featured on Radio Free Nashville in a two-hour live radio interview broadcast, hosted by Ty Brando, on May 4.

Jessi calls TWISTED SOUL “a crossover record with a jazz spinal cord,” with a sequenced “poperatic” story arc of cathartic metamorphosis – overcoming tragedy through change and growth. The album showcases Jessi’s sinuous vocal prowess as well as her heralded songwriting capacity, and contains three songs which already have won awards, including the kickoff track, “The Haunting,” winner of three competitions on its own.
