The Micronite Filters launch Kickstarter for sexy-psychedelic red and white swirled vinyl release

Canadian Rock/blues band, The Micronite Filters launch Kickstarter for sexy-psychedelic red and white swirled vinyl release of their new album ‘Wizard Blood’.

There is a bevy of awesome rewards available, including T-shirts, BBQ party, make a video with the band, make the band learn ANY cover song, and lots more including exclusive content. Supporters will also receive an IMMEDIATE download of Wizard Blood upon pledging.

The Micronite Filters continue to make hips and fists shake, with their gritty, southern-fried rock and roll. In 2012 they went down South to Mississippi and recorded the album 'Chasing Ghosts' with famed artist/producer Jimbo Mathus (the Squirrel Nut Zippers, Buddy Guy, The Tri-state Coalition). Since then they've brought some of that southern vibe back north, and have conceived another album's worth of material, now called Wizard Blood. They want to put the new album on some super-psychedelic-swirly-red vinyl for the best auditory experience possible.

We hope you'll consider spreading the word during the course of the campaign, which runs until December 21. Check out videos for Breadcrumbs, Wizard Finger, and Hellhound On My Trail, and more to come at youtube.com/TheMicroniteFilters

Germany

(http://www.bluesbox.de)

Savoy Brown 1981 Rock 'n' Roll Warriors

Genre: Rock
Rate: 128 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:52:41
Size: 49,70 MB

United Kingdom

Review by Joe Viglione

Though Savoy Brown is primarily known as a blues band, Rock 'n' Roll Warriors says in the title what this is all about, as Kim Simmonds' aggregation obtained in vocalist Ralph Mormon a major component from the Joe Perry Project's first solo album, Let the Music Do the Talking, released the year before this. With producer Richie Wise, himself the lead singer of the heavy metal band Dust and co-producer of the first two albums from Kiss, there is a decidedly different edge to this release on Capitol/Town House.

The bandmembers look like they are the prototype for the 1984 film Streets of Fire on the cover, and though the three live tracks tacked onto the end of the LP on TKO Magnum's CD release has this group truer to its blues roots, the original ten studio tunes include some variety that Savoy Brown's followers may not have been accustomed to. Those bonus tracks, "Street Corner Talkin'," "I'm Tired," and "Hellbound Train," were recorded live at Denver's Rainbow Music Hall on June 27, 1981. They make a great reference point to hear how this version of the band tackled familiar territory, but original material like "Shot Down By Love" could easily have found itself on Joe Perry's disc and shows the bite producer Wise infused into this version of the group. This is the last Savoy Brown album to chart in the U.S., which is validation of its quality but still a shame, since the music here is vital enough to have jump-started SB's storied career. Mormon sounds comfortable and in control; that he had the opportunity to front bands featuring two guitar greats is something you can feel he embraced wholeheartedly.

Michael Heatley's year 2000 liner notes to the CD reissue give some history and the Chinn/Chapman tune that hit for the U.K. band Smokie, "Lay Back in the Arms of Someone," is a real treat -- pure pop that is wildly different from the band's minor '70s radio hit, "Tell Mama," or anything else here. The songs are mostly composed by Kim Simmonds, were recorded in North Hollywood, and shift from rock to blues to rock. Though viewed as an anomaly in the band's catalog, Rock 'n' Roll Warriors has gained credibility and much-deserved respect over the years.

Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:47:25
Size: 108,57 MB

United States

Review by Michael B. Smith

Garfeel Ruff's debut album is a true piece of Southern musical history. Featuring the blue-eyed soul of guitarist Rick E. Godfrey and his keyboard-playing brother Ronnie Godfrey, along with guitarist Buddy Strong, bassist Franklin Wilkie, and drummer Alan Pearson, the band's self-titled debut was produced and engineered by Craig Leon. Hailing from Greenville, South Carolina, Garfeel Ruff became a regional favorite during the late 1970s with many of the songs from this recording -- "(Ride On) Purple Satin Lady," "Pine Needles Don't Cry," and "I'm Hungry." This is truly a diamond in the rough. Excellent musicianship and power-packed vocals make Garfeel Ruff a true lost classic.

Genre: Blues
Rate: 198 kbps VBR / 44100
Time: 00:44:34

United States

Keep the doors and windows unlocked when you hear this--a handy exit is the best thing for survival instincts when you feel your flesh crawl. This is what a Rottweiler would sound like if it could play music, and Joe looks like that evil wizard Saruman in "Lord of the Rings."

If you want to conjure up some powerful spirits, don't expect anything that will be easy to handle when the Express summons them-or else. This is primal, raging, and aboriginal in nature, and if you find the hair standing up on the back of your neck, just be glad your head is still attached to feel it.

Joe and his buddies can crack your back as well, just trying to move to those on-the-torture-rack rhythms. Lenny Kravitz gets a thumbs-up for "The Gospel," and Jimi and Stevie Ray sent "Cry" and "Mother Rain" down from the Heaven's Hall of Guitar Heroes. Watch out for the "Black Sheep of the Blues": you're gonna be the one who gets skinned for your hide.

Not safe yet? There's a touch of dobro mojo when you reach "Virginia," but "Witch Cat" will boil you alive in a Louisiana bayou cauldron with a voodoo chant. Dig this--J.S. Bach gets soul too: Joe blows a "Mass in Delta Minor" on harmonica. Salvation comes with the morning light, and pray for mercy. (Mitch Lopate)
