Biography

At the age of eleven, twenty-two years after the death of the phenomenal guitar-player Jimi Hendrix, Bas Paardekooper was struck by the sound of ‘Hey Joe' coming out of his grandma's stereo. Bas immediately took up his guitar and made an arrangement to this classic song, which had just opened the door to his musical career. Fed by records, cassette tapes, video's and, not in the last place, the musical environment of the Paardekooper family, Bas mastered the basics of Blues and Rock guitar. Soon his feeling for the instrument and his pleasure in playing made him well-known in the neighbourhood and it did not take long before he started performing on stage with fellow musicians. When he was fifteen years old, the Living Blues legend Ted Oberg heard him play and decided to take Bas under his musical wings for a time to develop his Blues-play.

After he finished school, Bas and a few former class mates formed a band called Blue Illusions. In this setting he mainly played old Rock and Blues covers. El Diablo followed later on, a four-men band, based on the hard Blues-rock style. To add new styles to his guitar-playing technique, Bas entered the (commercial) cover circuit and became an all-round guitar- player for a while in the bands Tjeez and Ramble. After a lot of practicing and playing, a period of complete musical rest set in. When he met all-round musician Wouter Hoek after a time, who encouraged him to pick up playing, Bas at first joined several jam sessions before playing in a band called React.

Bas Paardekooper and the Blew Crue made their first official appearance in 2007, although most members of the band had already been playing together in different settings.

Members of the band are:

Bas Paardekooper (Guitar and vocals)
René Mijnten (Bass and vocals)
Roel van Leeuwen(Drums and vocals)
Wouter Hoek (Keys and vocals)

Being inspired by Steve Ray Vaughan, Walter Trout and Jimi Hendrix their style can be best described as American Blues-Rock. The repertoire is heavy at times, but contains some beautiful ballads as well. All compositions are self made, forming a perfect basis for the spectacular and surprising guitar-sound of Bas Paardekooper. (http://www.baspaardekooper.com/)
