The 4onthefloor + Slang Chickens

United States

This E-mail reached me some days ago:

Hi Mile,

I wanted to tell you about a new Minneapolis based quartet The 4onthefloor and see if you might be interested in checking them out for Southern Blues Rock. The 4onthefloor's debut LP, 4x4, is set for official release on 4/4/2011.

Their band and album names are actually based on the fact that each member plays a bass drum in addition to their guitar, bass, percussion and vocal duties. I know this can sound pretty gimmicky, but the result is actually a really impressive hybrid of delta-blues, americana and punk. The four bass drums lend to some pretty unique improvisational sections in their live shows as you can imagine! (while still staying in 4/4 time!).

You can check out all 4 bass drums in action here:

While I have your attention I wanted to mention LA's Slang Chickens new EP "My Floor". "My Floor", is set for digital release next month with a 12-inch vinyl EP release in the Spring. They've been working on "My Floor" since their 2010 debut LP and after sharing the stage with Jay Reatard, Surfer Blood and Dum Dum Girls. The record is a chaotic blend of tumbling rock & roll, undeniable punk anthems and muddy Americana (Buddyhead called them "Devo meets Meat Puppets"). Check out these two tracks "My Floor" and "Grandfather's Gun", which you are free to post on Southern Blues Rock if you like.

I'd love to send you over albums of The 4onthefloor or Slang Chickens if you like what you hear, just let me know. In the meantime, feel free to post any of the tracks or video above on Southern Blues Rock! Thanks Mile!
