Eela Craig 1976 One Niter

Genre: Progressive Rock
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:45:44

Review by loserboy

"One Niter" is widely regarded as their best album and stands up IMHO as one tremendous pieces of symphonic progressive rock. This album was actually their second release and followed a 5 year delay after the release of their classic debut album. This album is essentially made up of two side-long conceptual tracks ("Circles" and "One Niter Medley").

The music of EELA CRAIG is very much keyboard centric featuring a wide host of keyboards with lots of mellotron. EELA CRAIG play serene yet majestic and hauntingly beautiful themes with lots of Mellotron, flute, symphonic string synths and killer guitar work. The vocals are also well done and float along with the music in a very similar vein to that of CAMEL. On "One Niter", EELA CRAIG also blend in some slight funk-like themes into the symphonic fog and gives the listener something quite original to listen to.

Bobby Parker 1993 Bent Out Of Shape

Genre: Blues
Rate: 224 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:52:36
Size: 84,32 MB

Album Notes:

This album, the first from a man known to his fellow musicians as a legend, arrives after an almost criminal wait of more than twenty years. Musicians revere Bobby Parker for his spellbinding vocals, his innovative guitar style, his songwriting, and a precious handful of singles. Carlos Santana, Steve Winwood, and Little Milton have covered his songs. And Robert Plant once said that he started singing after hearing Parker's recording of "Blues Get Off My Shoulder".

Audiences in Washington, D.C. know Parker for both his musicianship and flamboyant stage presence. He preaches, screams, and sings the blues with a soaring, high voice and a religious intensity. Parker really works the guitar, too - creating dazzling, fleet fingered runs and following them with slow, tortured bends. Sometimes he adds some heavy be-bop licks into the equation. And when the spirit really moves him, he jams atop the bar!

Chris Fitz Band 1998 Just Gettin' Started

Genre: Blues-Rock
Rate: 192 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:52:57
Size: 72,70 MB

Biography

Chris Fitz broke into the Boston music scene back in 1994 after a 5 year stint in the San Francisco area where he honed his blues guitar chops by floating around all the blues clubs in the Bay Area finding inspiration in the local and national blues artists who frequented them. He would then spend countless hours holed up in his apartment, guitar in hand and record player by his side tirelessly teaching himself to sound like the great players he loved to watch live. Upon moving back to Boston, his hometown, he wasted no time hitting the various blues jams around the city with a guarded confidence that he could play well enough to find his way into a working band. The singing and songwriting would come a little later but the blistering guitar work soon began to make an impact!

15 years and over 2000 gigs later, the Chris Fitz Band, with Chris leading the way as band leader/singer/songwriter and guitar player has become one of the premier rock-n-blues acts in all of New England. Since 2002, Chris and the band have received more than a dozen music awards including a 2002 Boston Music Award, 2005 Boston Blues Challenge Winners Award, as well as numerous songwriting and best guitar player awards. The band has toured constantly around New England for the last 15 years and has also spread it's wings as far as Europe, Memphis and California. The latest and best line-up hits the stage in 2009 with Steve Wolpe on drums, Jeff Majeau on bass, both formerly with the Bruce Marshall Band, and the amazing Ken Clark on Hammond B3 Organ. It's a thunderous band with grooves that pay homage to all areas of American Roots Music. Chris' songs can be heard on 4 award winning studio CD's and a 5th "double live" CD is almost ready for release. If you want original, high energy bluesy rock-n-roll for the 21st century, the Chris Fitz Band should be your next stop!! (www.cdbaby.com)

Review by ZowieZiggy

This is an album with several pre-released versions of songs from "Zarathustra". Sound recording for these are quite good which was not evident for such an old work.

The full suite is featured without any breaks (which is a plus compared to the final studio track). It is slightly shorter as well. I must say that I prefer the arrangements and production of this version. A perfect flow through the "Zarathustra" anthem leading to the fanstactic and fully symphonic finale. Great work, my friend.

"Degli Uomini" was my preferred "standard" song on the reference album. This version is quite close to it : featuring pleasant mellotron it is a gentle and sweet piece of music. The next one (also released on "Zarathustra") is far more complex. A combination of ELP and Crimson (yes, it is possible). The jazzy mood of the middle section is more difficult for me; but globally it is a very good version.

So far, I am more positive about these three pre-released versions than the final product available on "Zarathustra".

The problems come with both versions of "Dopo". The sound is really poor on the Italian one (but better than on "Live 1972") as well as during the English one. This song is just average (but maybe that with a good production, something better would have been achieved. But we'll never know.

Where things are seriously messing up is with two cover version of Heep songs. And not obscure ones. "Look At Yourself" and "Shadows Of Grief" belong to the best of their repertoire (but they wrote so many great songs...). These are also on the harder edge so, I would not have imagined "Museo" to cover these songs (maybe "Salisbury" or so...). You can also add to this comment that the sound is as poor as on their live album. While "Look..." is OK, "Shadows" is absolutely awful. The long drum solo is rather inadequate in here (although good; but they should have made one separate of this song IMO).

The cover of "With A Little Help..." is a cover of the fabulous Joe Cocker version. The lead singer almost sounds as Joe (would you believe?). If only the sound had been better! Like during the short "Valentyne Suite".

All in all, this album is good (except "Shadows Of Grief" of course). It should please any "Museo" fan and it is definitely more interesting than their poor "Live 1972".
