Chilly Willy, Loony Goony & The Free American Indian Hippy Blues Street Fruits 2002 Thursday Night Live

Belgium

Founded in the summer of 1992 in order to please a local organizer, the blues band with the unlikely long name, has since then grown into an established name in the Belgian blues circuit. Also abroad (Netherlands, France and Germany) they are welcome guests in clubs and at festivals. Over the years the band built a solid live reputation and they assembled a well filled repertoire, with the absolute highlight their participation in the First Blues, Roots & Reggae Festival in Negril, Jamaica in 2000. The occupation of the band changed several times but the enthusiasm and zeal remained intact.

In 2002, they recorded a live CD entitled "Thursday Night Live", this gives the listener a good idea how things go during a Chilly Willy Show. Their repertoire consists of catchy, danceable but especially honest blues and roots covers from greats such as Sonny Boy Williamson II, Howlin 'Wolf and Slim Harpo. This is all served in a raw, greasy and dirty way in the vein of the late Lester Butler and his band The Red Devils.

Pub music that comes straight from the gut and touches people. Chilly Willy is primarily a live band, and a performance is an experience, in which the musicians always give the best of themselves. Fans of straightforward, no-nonsense, real-time music are certainly gonna like Chilly Willy, so....don’t be silly, go and see CHILLY WILLY; LOONY GOONY AND THE FREE AMERICAN INDIAN HIPPY BLUES STREET FRUITS!! 21st Century Schizoid Band 2003 Live In Japan

Review by Bruce Eder

The 21st Century Schizoid Band isn't doing badly for a group that's never come close to charting a record anywhere, getting out two releases in a single year, a self-titled debut plus this double-disc combined CD/DVD package from a November 2002 concert. To call this the fulfilment of a dream would be putting it mildly on several counts -- for starters, anyone who missed the original King Crimson on tour in 1969 at last has a chance to see as well as truly hear drummer Michael Giles playing in concert (welcome as the Crimson historical releases from 1969 are, they're not remotely state of the art in quality) and even bringing a new song, "Progress," to the table; Giles' more enigmatic brother Peter Giles on bass; Mel Collins, a saxman's saxman, playing this repertoire live; and Ian McDonald, the original jack of all trades in the Crimson lineup, doing what he does best (i.e., a little bit of everything). Everyone in this band plays like they're at the top of their form and having the time of their lives -- Collins is clearly the heavier-weight reedman in comparison to McDonald, but the latter gets his embellishments in as well, even on the numbers where they're both blowing sax.

"In the Court of the Crimson King" is fascinating to watch just to see the amount of switching off that McDonald does between flute and keyboards. The band also does slightly later Crimson repertoire, such as "Formentera Lady," which is stretched out with a lyrical opening on bass and flute and a newly melodic treatment in the main body of the song -- the song is mostly Collins' showcase on flute and sax, while McDonald moves between various keyboards and reed instruments in support. McDonald and Michael Giles each get lead vocal showcases, the former on a newer song called "If I Was," which is a good match for the older material, although perhaps a little more obviously pop-oriented -- they also resurrect two McDonald & Giles songs, "Tomorrow's People" and "Birdman." Strangely enough, one doesn't miss Robert Fripp at all -- Jakko Jakszyk knows the sound and the style (he grew up with it) and it's his natural musical language.

Loose Change 1987 Loose Change

Genre: Southern Rock
Rate: 256 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:35:32
Size: 64,97 MB

United States

To be so young, Macon, Georgia’s Chris Hicks has been around the Southern Rock block a few times -- and in a big way. As guitarist and singer for The Outlaws and a stint in The Marshall Tucker Band and now as a solo artist, Hicks continues to amaze and astound with powerful blues vocals, smoldering hot guitar work and great songwriting. GRITZ caught up with the well-mannered and cordial Chris at his home in Macon for an enlightening conversation. (http://swampland.com/articles/view/title:chris_hicks)

Since the age of seven, Chris Hicks’ only passion has been playing guitar. He created his first band when he was 14 and has been a shooting star ever since. Heading up The Loose Change Band from 1980 through 1988, Chris developed his distinctive style and grabbed the attention of listeners across the country. The legendary Outlaws recruited Chris in 1989. He captivated a rapidly expanding coterie of supporters with smoldering hot guitar work, powerful blues vocals and expressive songwriting. Chris played on and contributed songs to the Outlaws releases, “Hittin’ The Road Live” and “Diablo Canyon.” He returned home to produce his first solo album, “Funky Broadway” which was nationally distributed by Ichiban Records. Soon after its release Chris was sought out by The Marshall Tucker Band. His signature licks and heart-pounding vocals fused perfectly with the band’s unique sound and can be heard on their latest release, “Face Down In The Blues.” Having gained a solid reputation as a well-respected solo artist, he continues to create a unique musical experience best described as “soulfully inspiring.”

Chris’ talent and ability to provide an original and versatile sound has landed him opening spots for The Atlanta Rhythm Section, Jefferson Starship, .38 Special, The Charlie Daniels Band, Edgar Winter, Eddie Money, REO Speedwagon and several multi-band tours. His song, “Love Is On The Line,” was featured in the film Fast Food, starring Jim Varney. His song “Blues Got Me Down,” was hand-picked by Taxim Records to appear on their European blues compilation, “Peach State Blues.” The record also highlights Chris’ lead vocals on Barry Richman’s “Here Again.” His work also includes several television and radio commercials, a motivational tour, and numerous guest appearances both on stage and in recording productions for various artists.

The new millennium finds The Chris Hicks Band hard at work recording tracks for album number two and...back on the road, blazing with the force, spirit and music his fans have come to know and expect. (http://www.thechrishicksband.com)

Netherlands

New Adventures weer ‘on the road’. En in de originele bezetting! Breakout 1971 Blues

Genre: Blues

Poland

Blues is the fourth studio album by Polish blues rock band Breakout. It was released on February 1971 in Poland. Blues is often considered the best album in whole Breakout carrier. Blues is considered to be one of the most important albums in the history of Polish rock. (http://en.wikipedia.org)

In early 1970s's anybody in Poland who have ever tried play music had to study this album. Everybody. Some of them admit to that, some of them don't but the fact is: this generation got its first blues lessons not from Clapton but by studding this album, especially Darek Kozakiewicz's guitar solos. What even more amazing this album single-handed created modern rock music in Hungary. Practically all first release of this LP was sold out to Hungarians who have visited Poland those days, the album was moving from the shelves as quickly as freshly baked bread... Since that Hungarian rock music got really good and interesting, they have so many great bands, very popular in Poland as well. --Tadeusz Nalepa (amazon.com)

Album Notes

Lucky 13 is a compilation of the first two "Too Slim and the Taildragger" recordings , "Swingin' in the Underworld" 1988 and "Rock em Dead" 1990.

This album is a great representative of the bands formative years. The band was a hard drivin' blues rock band doing the club circuit in those days. All the original tunes are penned by founding member and guitarist Tim "Too Slim" Langford. There is a great selection of covers by the band including a "raucous" rendition of Link Wray's "Rumble. This is a "must have" CD for Too Slim fans!!
